Understanding the Colon and Its Role in Your Health

Your digestive system is a ecosystem in itself. There are bacteria and yeasts that live in there in a balance that helps the body absorb all the nutrients. Those nutrients sustain all your body’s functions and give you energy throughout the day. Unfortunately, this balance is very fragile and it is often disrupted by certain factors. Contrary to many peoples beliefs and fade diets it is not about killing off anything but restoring balance that is the key to health…

The things that can imbalance your body are:

  • Lifestyle
  • Diet
  • Diseases
  • Medication (antibiotics)
  • Stress
  • Sleep Schedule
  • Over Sterile Conditions
  • Emotional Trauma
  • Negative Thoughts

All these factors can deteriorate and effect the health of your colon. They allow the level of good bacteria to drop. And when left untreated, all the harmful bacteria can break the protective barrier of the colon and release toxins in it (leaky gut).

Once the bad bacteria go through the protective barrier of the colon, they will affect the health of all the other organs too.

The digestive tract is home to about 450 bacteria and yeast species.

Why is colon health so important?  And why is it not just a 2 week juice cleanse or magic pill to heal from it?

Colon health is important because an imbalance between the yeasts and the good bacteria can lead to a weak immune system and malnutrition.  That can also cause autoimmune diseases like thyroiditis, rheumatoid arthritis or Crohn’s disease.

When we start the long journey to detoxify our bodies through fasting and raw living foods, we start to take the pressure from the body and give it chance to heal itself, this takes time and consistaency to achieve.

Fortunately, there are quite a few doTERRA essential oils to support colon health along the way! They can be used along side a cellular detoxification plan and natural lifestyle…

 One way or another, more than 80% of the people suffer from some kind of colon problem…even the ones who declare the don’t!  Some have an unbalanced flora that can lead to infections. While others suffer from food sensitivity, which translates into food intolerance or allergies. Others its skin conditions or mental health or presenting with Autism ADHD symptoms.

If you are new to Essentail oils you can start with applying the oils below with fractionated coconut oil to the bottoms of the feet first. The bottoms of the feet are highly absorptive and a safe location for the application of any essential oil especially in children.

Then you can move to applying them to the abdomen in a clockwise motion with castor oil or coconut oil.

If you are not using daily or regular enemas or colonics,  I would suggest to start as if you are removing harmful foods and adding detoxing practices… but you are not helping your body get rid of these toxins fats enough you can cause more issues and what we call re-toxing. So once you have built up a tolerance with your essential oils and using them regularly…you can start using them prior to the enema or colonic to encourage a comfortable release.

Another way if you don’t feel comfortable to do an enema or you can’t achieve this with children is to make your own essential oils suppositories. By using organic coconut oil in an ice cube tray, then adding between 2 to 5 drops of essential oils per cube (I’d suggest a silicone tray). Then inserting 1 as far up inside your anus as you can to allow the oils to penetrate in to your colon.

Here are my suggestions for the oils to benefit you condition:

Prostate Issues: frankincense, myrrh, wintergreen, copaiba, cypress, grapefruit

Chronic Fatigue: peppermint, cilantro, lemon, wild orange, grapefruit, basil

Weight loss: peppermint, zendocrine, smart sassy, lemon, orange, grapefruit, cypress

Skin Conditions: lavender, rosewood, lavender, geranium, frankincense

Pain/Cramps: wintergreen, cypress, peppermint, marjoram, copaiba, frankincense

Digestive Aid: lemon, wild orange, peppermint, fennel, wintergreen, spearmint

Leaky Gut Syndrome: lemon, wild orange, digestZen, grapefruit, fennel, lavender, frankincense, cilantro

Cancer: tangerine, grapefruit, oregano, frankincense, myrrh, lavender, geranium, sandalwood

Gastro-intestinal Infections: on gaurd, rosemary, marjoram, cilantro, basil, clove, peppermint, fennel

Detox: peppermint, zendocrine, lemon, wild orange, digestZen, grapefruit, cypress, tangerine, grapefruit

Irritable Bowel Syndrome: peppermint, wintergreen, spearmint, fennel, wild orange, ginger, cypress, grapefruit, lemon

Colitis: wintergreen, cypress, peppermint, marjoram, copaiba, frankincense


DOSAGE – Applying 5-10 drops per litre of water you use….making sure it is stirred. I apply my oils to the last water that goes in so it stays in longer. Ask your colonic practitioner to add your oils just before the treatment finishes.

Using essential oils in your enema not only supports your colon health and healing journey, but it really make your shit smell like roses…or rosemary or ginger to hahah!

NOTE –  add fears lemon juice if you are constipated or 1 tsp Bi- Carb powder if you are very loose in your stools. You can also add your herbal tincture or teas like Parasite M form Dr Morse to enemas to. I DO NOT RECOMMEND COFFEE ENEMAS they are far to stimulating unless you are in stage 4 cancer and need to heal faster.

How to do a enema:


-Add warm water to your enema bag or bucket then add your chosen supportive oils or herbs.
Hang your enema bag/bucket about 18 in. to 3 ft above your rectum. A good tool for this is too hang it from a shower or up high on a shelf.

-You should have a clamp on your enema the to slow the water up or down.I find downward dog or dolphin or putting my legs up on the edge of the bath suits me best, but some say lying on their sides or even lying flat works for them. A good starting portion is on your right side.

-Insert nozzle/colon tube tip into your anus, using a lubricant like coconut oil

-Inject solution into rectum slowly, and take as much as possible , refill bag as needed or until it becomes uncomfortable to take any more solution. Somedays you will be able to take more than others.

-Massage abdomen in counter-clockwise direction this will help the solution higher into the colon.

-When bag is empty or no more fluid can be taken remove nozzle/rectal tube
Lie on each side for 5 to 10 minutes, while massaging your abdomen.
Now you can move to the toilet and release the enema, continuing to massage your abdomen.

When expelling the enema:
-Massage abdomen in a clockwise direction this will help move the solution back toward the rectum and anus. This helps with expelling the enema water and helps move the solution and feces towards the rectum and out the anus.

NOTE: when doing enemas on kids use an iPad or favourite game to distract them lying them on their side on a towel, keeping them warm and calm and off cause ask their permission…we called them ‘tummy washes’ and used them daily when my children were extremely constipated and very toxic. Then place them on the toilet with books till they empty out. We use them now from time to time if they have virus or headaches or need an emotion realise.  

When I resist doing an enema, I ask myself ‘what am I not prepared to let go of today?’

When I do an enema and the water comes straight out and I cannot hold it in ‘I wonder what I’m rigid and uptight about today?’

When I can hold 2 litres in with time to move around before releasing the water, I ask myself ‘how can I go deeper into healing today and shed more than I ever have?’

Essentail Oils for your Chakras…

Chakra“, the Sanskrit word for “wheel“, refers to seven site specific concentrations of energy emanating from the body that spin in opposite directions creating energy or Chi…

Contrary to most language around we do not have open and closed Chakras…as if we had a closed Chakra we would be dead…

These chakra points refer to our organs and glands and meridian lines throughout our bodies. They can be expanded further and utilised more but are never closed, but energy can be trapped or lacking in flow to that area. The spinning motion can slow or spin to fast. Each Chakra is positively charged and negatively charged but should have a balance of both continuously…when this flow isn’t happening an imbalance occurs in the body and negative emotions can arise leading to sickness and disease. All babies are born with a complete open Chakra flow, but over time this can be blocked by traumas, their needs not being met or societies conditionings or patterning imprinted on them.

Things that support our Chakras are movement, mediation, nutrition, nature and I have found Essential Oils also help to support them to. Think of your body like a recorder with holes on both side not just one side, your chakras or energy centres shine through both sides of your body legs and arms. So you heart charkas has a point on the front and back of your body. This is handy to remember when applying essential oils. Your Crown Chakra is above your head in your energy body and you have ones below your body to. The leg and arm Chakras are less talked about but can be delved in to once you get comfortable with your 7 main Chakras.

The idea is to apply activating essential oils to energise a sluggish Chakra function or calming oils to quiet the over-active ones. Balancing oils are good for maintaining support of well-regulated Chakras. A combination of both activating and calming oils will tend to have an overall balancing and supportive benefit to the Chakras. This is an ever-flowing journey…some days one is more activated than another, depending on what life presents and how we are emotionally and physically…and what our environment is.

This is a guide to the oils that have worked for me. Each persons needs are different, so I invite you to really choose an oil that makes you feel good and you represent to it in some way, be it colour, smell or emotion connection. Charkas and The Corresponding Oils:

CROWN CHAKRA SUPPORT (7th Sahasrara) –

Myrrh and Salubelle are great oils to encourage energy and flow in your crown chakra. This is especially helpful if you are feeling depressed or low in energy. Using some on the crown of your head or in a diffuser will help you feel activated here.

Neroli and Cedarwood ground you in this area, especially if you are open in the Crown Chakra before your Root Chakra has expanded you may receive lots of tension headaches or find you get very dizzy. Using these oils will balance this. I like to Diffuse them in my home. It is important to work on your lower Chakras before you expand your Crown and Third eye, so you have grounding and balance and do not feel away with the fairy’s with no clarity.

Frankincense is my favourite oil to maintain a connection to my soul and the universal energy and keep my Chakra line expanding and spinning with ease. This is a daily oil for me no matter what else my body needs. Using this oil while you practice daily EFT is helpful to your spiritual expansion.

THIRD EYE (6th Ajana) –

Rosemary and Patchouli will help break down the Fluoride and awaken your penal gland adding Coriander can help with heavy metals in this area to. Using these oils regularly in a rollerball can prevent headaches from this Chakra needing more energy flow.

Bringing balance and stabilizing this area if it has been activated to fast or over used I find Roman Chamomile, and Clary Sage helpful.

For clarity and clear vision I suggest using Frankincense and Sandalwood on your third eye…especially before mediation or if you need clarity in your day.

THROAT (5th Vishudda) –

Energise: Making a spritzer spray with Lemon and Basil oil and water will help an under active Thyroid and energise this area and expand energy to this area and your self expression.

If you have an over active Thyroid then using Roman Chamomile and Jasmine will help slow the thyroid production down and balance the energy to this area.

Maintenance: Coriander and Clary Sage essential oil is great to keep an even expression of the Thyroid/Throat Chakra.

HEART (4th Anahata) –

Massaging Forgive and Basil on to your heart space in a clockwise motion will activate this area…while you visualise sending out light to others and the planet will help to bring in more energy and expand this area helping with depression.

If you are over activated in this area and need a calming affect and healing oils I suggest using Lavender and Marjoram worn as a daily perfume to overcome heartache.

Geranium and Rose is a great way to keep balance and activation with lots of light energy pouring in keeping you content and joyful.


Because this is your energy field around your gut using Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Juniper Berry and DigestZen with gentle massage anti- clockwise will help to activate a sluggish digestive system and bring more healing light in to this area.

And to calm this area if there is too much energy flow and you have an inflamed gut use Vetiver and Helichrysum, this will help with self esteem and judgment.

If you have good balance in this Chakra use Lemon, Bergamot, Fennel and Grapefruit to keep the flow of energy in maintenance with Castor Oil packs and Massage.

SACRAL CHAKRA SUPPORT (2nd Svadishana) –

Massaging spicy hot oils like Cardamom, Pepper and On Guard will help active a sluggish energy or diffusing them while you meditate.

While Neroli and Ylang Ylang will calm an over activation in this area allowing a calming effect and a reduction of Anxiety.

And Wild Orange and Sandalwood will help with maintenance once this area is in balanced for a sense of self.


Awaken your root chakra with Clove, Cinnamon and On Guard by placing some in a diffuser and moving your body with dance…especially thumping tribal dance where you activate you base area.

Using Patchouli and Vetiver in a daily foot massage with Fractionated Coconut oil will help bring balance to your Root Chakra. Especially while you visualise the life you want to live.

Once this area is balanced supporting the energy with Bergamot and Lavender Peace with nurturing warm salt baths.

We have arm and leg Chakras and also energy wheels that are below our feet as we know above our heads. These can be supported with dry brushing the whole body with Fractionated Coconut oil and Cedarwood and Wild Orange. Saunas, movement and massage.

“The Patala, located in the soles of the feet, is said to be aligned with malice and hatred as well as forgiveness. The Mahatala is located more centrally in the foot near the arch and is aligned with a sense of entitlement and lack of conscience as well as expansiveness. The Rasatala is located in the ankles and is aligned with selfishness and charity, while the Talatala is located in the calves and is aligned with a materialism for the self and an awareness of being conscious. Sutala is in the knees and is aligned to inadequacy, inferiority, but also self-confidence. Vitala in the thighs aligns with blind wrath while also aligned to forgiveness. Atala in the hips is aligned to lustful promiscuity and the ability to be healthily sexual.”

Respiratory Issues and DoTERRA Essential oils


‘Easy Air’ is our respiratory support blend and one of my favourite blends ever!! It has been a life saviour in our household especially over cold winters, while my husband fly’s for work and when Edward was more congested before his detoxing journey!!

Here are all my favourite recipes incorporating this amazing blend all in one place for you!

30 drops Easy Air/Breathe
10 drops Frankincense
Top with carrier oil in a 10ml roller or 30ml Spritzer
Apply to the chest and bottom of the feet as needed.
(If you prefer your oils more diluted use half these amounts)



½ cup coconut oil or shea butter melted
30 drops Easy Air/Breathe
Optional: also add 5 drops Lavender + 5 drops Frankincense (especially nice if using at night)
You can either mix the Easy Air (and other oils if using) directly in the solid coconut oil in a small bowl and then transfer into a small glass jar with lid.

OR what I prefer to do is melt the coconut oil (over very low heat so it doesn’t get too hot) and then add the oils. Stir and pour into a small glass jar with lid and allow to set.
Apply a small amount to the chest as needed

1/2 cup coconut oil
2 tablespoons of beeswax pastilles
30 drops Easy Air/Breathe
Optional: Also 5 drops Lavender + 5 drops Frankincense (especially nice if using at night)
Melt beeswax with coconut oil in a double boiler until just melted.
Add the Easy Air and other oils if using.
Stir and pour into a small glass jar with lid and allow to set.
Apply a small amount to the chest as needed

10 drops Easy Air/Breathe
10 drops Thyme
10 drops Lavender
Top with carrier oil in a 10ml roller or 30ml Spritzer
Apply to the bottom of the feet concentrating on the big toes before bed.
(If you prefer your oils more diluted use half these amounts)

5 drops Easy Air + 4 drops Lime
5 drops Easy Air + 4 drops Frankincense
5 drops Easy Air, 2 drops Lime + 2 drops Frankincense
5 drops Easy Air + 4 drops On Guard
4 drops Easy Air, 3 drops Eucalyptus + 2 drops Frankincense

5 drops Easy Air + 4 drops Marjoram

So let’s use Essential oils to support the brain and nervous system!!

How to Apply Essential Oils.

  • Topically, by mixing a few drops with fractionated coconut oil then applying to the base of the neck with a roller ball.
  • Adding a few drops to a diffuser (make sure the diffiser is in the same room as the child)
  • Adding one or two drops directly on the child. (Be careful with this as some oils are considered hot and can burn, so look at the label beforehand.) These are my favourite oils that I use daily.

Since many with ADD/ADHD, aspergers, or autism are highly sensitive to odours and sometime touch, do not force the application of oils if it is a negative experience as this will build experiential resentment towards their use in the future. Many times it is successful letting them make their own selection from a few choices of oils. Some kids with autism/sensory processing/sensitivities are particularly sensitive to smell and may resist the use of oils. Applying to the feet, even after they are asleep, or put the diffuser inn the hall way to start or in their room after they go to sleep…there are ways can get you over this problem.

Here are my favourite oils to support Autism, ADHD and ADD and to support ASD parents.

One of the first oils we tried was peppermint. My youngest used to get chest infections and high fever, and since I didn’t want to use medications. I used peppermint as a fever reducer and it works! It also helps with migraines, increasing oxygen if your tired and stomach pains. I put a drop right on his forehead.  But it is ideal to have a roller bottle with a mixture of the peppermint oil and a carrier oil like doTERRA fractionated coconut oil. You can then rub this mixture on the forehead or the back of the neck.


Another essential in your house and a regular in my home and handbag would be Lavender. It works great for relaxing and winding down before bedtime as it relaxes the nervous system. This is a great oil for those kids that can’t go to bed or don’t sleep well during the night. Using lavender helps you sleep longer at night, it also helps you sleep deeper. Lavender alone may not be enough for you so I would suggest for those really wired kids using Vetiver too. I put the diffuser on at night and this helps as well as putting some in a spray bottle with water to mist the pillow cases and sheets or dab it directly on the pillow or their soft toy. Lavender is great for cuts as it stops the bleeding, and for bites, eczema (use in the bath or with a carrier oil) and bruises. You can also add it to your face cream for extra moisture too ladies!

Vetiver as I just mentioned is amazing for deep sleep and great for those who have insomnia. Vetiver is psychologically grounding, calming, and stabilising for the nervous system. It helps with night terrors, restlessness, balancing emotions and ADHD. It was studied by Dr. Terry Friedmann for improving children’s behavior with ADD and ADHD in 100% of children in his study aged between 6-14. It may help people cope with stress and recover better from emotional trauma and shock. This oil helps quiet an overactive, exhausted or stressed mind. Also, it a great choice in helping to control anger, irritability, or neurotic behavior. We have found it helpful for calming William from his meltdowns when he was younger and currently if he gets over excited or worried and his nervous system gets overwhelmed. Console Touch is one of my ultimate must have oils for kids. This oil has stopped more meltdowns than I can count and fast!! Console promotes feelings of comfort and hope during times of loss or sadness. This proprietary blend combines the sweet and musky aroma of dōTERRA Console essential oil blend with Fractionated Coconut Oil for gentle application. Apply to the heart when feeling worried, sad, or unsettled. I don’t leave home without it!! Balance this with InTune Touch to for magic duo!

Cedarwood I use in combination with Lavender. Cedarwood helps to stimulate the pituitary and pineal glands. It can also aid in increasing melatonin levels naturally starting to calm the kids down ready for dinner, bath and bed routine. It also can help with good sleep at night and focus during the next day. I pick the kids up from school when they are tired but excited and this if not managed can lead to meltdowns as they are often hungry too. So I hang my ‘smelly balls’ http://www.cocodaydream.com.au/smellyballshop in my car with cedarwood and lavender on them and within 5 minutes of them being in the car they both start calming down and talking about there day. If they are not at school I use this combination in my diffuser. Cedarwood is also great for edema and achy legs.

Frankincense the king of oils and my favourite!! It’s my go to oil for everything from cuts, anti-ageing and skin issues. It is extremely helpful in regenerating cells, calming and relaxing and promoting higher levels of consciousness in mediation as it stimulates the limbic system of the brain. This part of the brain controls instincts and mood and helps with epilepsy. It is very good at bringing a hyper or excited child down into his or her body and grounding them again. You can get it in a roller ball blend called InTune which is great to carry for trips to the supermarket or outings that might send your child off into a meltdown or into stimming. InTune is a special blend (Amyris, Frankincense, Lime, Patchouli, Roman Chamomile, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang) prepared to enhance focus and support healthy thought processes, good for homework and concentration at school or the office. Don’t be put of with the price of frankincense as it is such an all round oil it will be an essential to your families needs.

Helichrysum italicum is considered a medicinal plant with many promising pharmacological activities because it operates as a natural antibiotic, antifungal and antimicrobial. Allergies, acne, colds, coughs, skin inflammation, wound healing, constipation, indigestion and Acid Reflux, liver diseases, gallbladder disorders, inflammation of the muscles and joints, infections, candida, insomnia, stomachaches
and bloating . . . wow thats one oil! Yup its up there with frankincense and the go to oil and a must for an ASD family. Best of all is is a blood coagulant which means when your child is upset abd has a bloody cut it will stop the blood fast without the need for plasters or intervention that could cause the meltdown to get worst.

For frustration, impatience, and anger use oils and blends that calm. Like Balance, Serenity, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Console, Intune or the kids Range. Applying to the feet, back of the neck, behind the knees, and diffusion are all suggested.


You can make up blends to help with calming, relaxation and serenity within the home. This is one of my favourite to make up in a rollerball.

14 drops Vetiver
5 drops Ylang Ylang
3 drops Frankincense
2 drops Clary Sage
1 drop Marjoram
5 drops Lavender

Fill the remaining space of the roller bottle with doTERRA fractionated coconut oil.

Another blend you can make up yourself for meltdowns is:

15 drops Peppermint
20 drops Frankincense
85 drops Vetiver
15 drops Helichrysum
10 drops Bergamot
10 drops Sandalwood
5  drops Cinnamon
10 drops Lemon (it facilities absorption)

On Guard is the only medical first aid kit you will ever need! It helps boost your immune systems and protect against flu, colds, and viruses. As this is a hot oil (meaning it feels warm on the skin, always dilute it for kids. Adults can have it neat on their feet) Simple add 5 drops to  15 drops of fractionated coconut and rub on your kids feet at night once they have gone to bed. You can also get beedlets that you swallow too and throat sweets or you can make up a throat gargle with it too. You can dilute it with water and use it to clean your kitchen with and it’s ideal for your diffusers, killing of all bad bacteria and microbes and moulds and kill air bourne pathogens. It’s great to clear stuck energy too and I often use a spray bottle with water to clear a room. It works as great hand sanitiser and i make up a small 15ml spray bottle  with 10 drops of oil and carry it in my bag.

DigestZen and Zendocrine in combination with On Guard these are powerful combination to support the gut flora and reduce unwanted parasites, bacteria and yeast overgrowths. I get my kids to swallow veggie capsule with these in but before they could I use to run these eon their feet or spines or use them in tea or smoothies.


The doTERRA detox/cold/flu support. “It really, really works!! A more natural alternative to the toxic flu shot.”

  • 3 drops  Oregano 
  • 5 drops  OnGuard 
  • 5 drops Tee Tree (Melaleuca) 
  • 5 drops  Lemon



  • 3 drops Peppermint
  • 2 drops Oregano
  • 2 drops Frankincense
  • 2 drops OnGuard

Put this in a Veggie Cap and take every 3 to 4 hours or as needed.

Another way is applying topically with fractionated coconut oil. This is great for using on young children.

Another way is for children to put oregano, melaleuca and OnGuard essential oil blend on their feet (1 drop of each and apply every 2-3 hours).
You can also can add 2 to 3 drops of On Guard essential oil blend.

Basil is great for those kids on the spectrum who are low functioning as it stimulates the nervous system and wakes up the brain, and helps with concentration, increases focus. We used this on Edward lots when he was behind on his fine and gross motor skills and speech.

DDR Prime is my newest favourite oil. The Cellular Complex blend also includes essential oils from Frankincense, Lemongrass, Summer Savory and Niaouli leaf, which help support a healthy immune response. I have found that DDR Prime is calming to the nervous system of sensitive kids. Soothe the body and the mind by taking a drop internally or combine with a carrier oil and massage into the skin. Supportive to the health of the brain and nervous system, and has had great results with speech days and brain function…use DDR Prime as daily overall wellness support.

Recipe: Fill a 10 ml roller bottle halfway full with fractionated coconut oil, then add 4 drops of Frankincense essential oil, 4 drops of DDR Prime essential oils, 2 drops turmeric 2 drops Zendocrine and 2 drops Copabia. Roller on the neck or spine twice a day.

Oregano the queen of oils. It’s anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and a anti-septic to the respiratory system also antiviral and an immune stimulant. There is no need for antibiotics from the Doctor when you have this oil. 1-2 weeks of taking this oil before winter and you will sale through with no nasty bugs. If you come down with gastro, a virus or cold or flu start taking this for 3-4 weeks. It is also very good for wounds and fungus infections.

Tee Tree (Melaleuca) is amazing for ear infections. Either run a bath and get you child to bath there whole head in covering the art or simple place some diluted around the outside of the ear. In extreme cases you could add 1 drop in a carrier oil and drop it in to the ear canal it self.

Breathe/Easy Air is the perfect blend for asthma, croup, colds, exercising, coughs, tightness in the chest or for sore throats and the elimination of bacteria and viruses from the body as it opens up the airways. Simple put a diffuser in your child’s room with 5-10 drops in and let them fall asleep. You could add a few drops to there pillow too.

Copaiba is a resin, which Copaiba oil originates from, has been used medicinally since at least 1625 for the natural treatment of health concerns like bronchitis, chronic cystitis, chronic diarrhoea and haemorrhoids. Along side Easy Air I have found this to be a essentail oil for our home. It’s properties are also great for the skin and acne and soothes the nervous system and is anti-inflammatory.
